“60 Minutes” will focus on the work of former “Wild Kingdom” co-star Stan Brock of Knoxville and the Remote Area Medical organization on Sunday’s show.

The CBS newsmagazine, which can be seen at 7 p.m. on WVLT, Channel 8, sent crews to Knoxville recently, where reporter Scott Pelley talked to Brock.

In the report, Brock will talk about how he became familiar with the needs of remote peoples through his days working on a South American cattle ranch and as zoologist Marlon Perkins’ muscle-bound assistant in the pioneering television nature show “Wild Kingdom.” …click here to read more

Google has made an announcement that could help hundreds of homeless people in San Francisco get back on their feet. Every single homeless person in the city will be given a life-long phone number and voicemail, should they choose to accept it, NBC11’s Lisa Bernard said. Google is partnering with San Francisco to provide the service to homeless individuals and to shelters and agencies so they can distribute the numbers to their clients.

Gabe Schwarzer, the video creator who brought us the original Mac vs. PC “South Park” style parody ad is back with a sequel. Gabe wrote in to tell us his Mac vs. PC vs. Linux video is up on his website.

In the credits, Gabe notes that he used the South Park Studios app to make the characters. He also says he created the video on a PC and a Mac “because one just isn’t enough.” I guess that tells us exactly how he feels about Linux — presuming the video doesn’t settle the issue in the first place.

The United States leads the world in operating systems, Web 2.0 startups, and drunken teenage starlets. When it comes to cell phones, however, we might as well be Albania.
